If you are new to Yoga we encourage you to attend our Fundamental flow classes. Fundamental flow provides a solid foundation and can equip you with the knowledge and experience to enjoy our other classes fully. That said, the Vinyasa flow, Slow flow, Mellow flow and Yin classes are open to everyone and your instructor will offer options for harder poses.
We recommend you bring water and a towel for your first yoga class at HDY or buy some water / rent a towel at reception. Yoga mats are provided so you don't need to bring your own but you are welcome to if you prefer.
We recommend you arrive 15 minutes early to check in and familiarise yourself with the space and your teacher.
If possible, don’t have a large meal 2-3 hours before class and arrive well hydrated. Wear light clothing that will allow a full range of movement like leggings, shorts, crop tops and singlets.
The Studio
It is best to book online via our website or mobile app to avoid disappointment. Bookings for classes can be made up to a week in advance by clicking on the 'Sign Up' button next to the classes in the timetable. If the class is waitlist only, please do put yourself on the waiting list as spaces often come up and you will be notified.
We understand life happens. Please cancel at least 2 hours prior to class by logging into your account on our website or using the app. Cancellations will not be accepted via phone, email or social media.
If you “no show” or cancel within 2 hours of the class start time, casual and 10-class passes will forfeit the class and members will be charged $10 as it often means another student is unable to attend.
Please respect other students by only booking classes that you will attend.
Unfortunately you may find yourself locked out. We lock our yoga studio doors during class for the safety and security of our students. We try to start and end each class on time. We recommend getting to the studio at least 5 minutes before class starts so you can get on to the mat and ready to go!
Most of our yoga classes are practiced in a room heated between 28-35 degrees. The warm temperature stretches muscle fibres and tendons to help prevent injuries as you work out. It also increases circulation throughout the body, enhances immune system function and encourages tissue repair.
These yoga classes do feel more challenging because of the added heat. We encourage you to pace yourself and determine the intensity that works best for you. Please see our in-depth class styles for details on specific temperatures and intensities during each class.
Bikram has a rigid structure with a set of 26 yoga poses and 2 breathing exercises in 90 minutes. These are done in a room heated to approximately 40 degrees.
At Hot Dog Yoga, our classes are mostly 60 minutes (45 minute express classes during lunch times) in a room mostly heated between 28-35 degrees (with some non-heated classes). Most importantly each class you attend will be different and will draw on the teacher’s style and training. Also, unlike Bikram, a Vinyasa style practice focuses on all over body strength and stretch including a lot of upper body work in the flow from standing to the floor and back up again.
Health and Safety
Soon-to-be mamas are also welcome at our Vinyasa flow, Fundamental flow, Mellow flow and Yin classes. Please let your teacher know before class and he/she will be able to offer appropriate modifications.
However, please consult your medical professional prior to commencing yoga practice with us.
Please let us know before class if you have an injury or concern so we can discuss how to modify your practice to give you the most out of class. Please also check with your doctor to make sure it is safe to pratice yoga with us.
You have to be at least 12-years old to practice at Hot Dog Yoga. If you are between 12 and 16 you can attend with a parent or guardian. Anyone who is 16 or over is welcome to attend solo.
